Stratford is recognized around the world as home of the famous Stratford Festival Theatre, which began in 1953. The original season, which lasted for 6 weeks, has been extended to 27 weeks. Currently, more than 500,000 visitors a year witness our unsurpassed repertory theatre. In addition to attending performances, visitors can attend seminars, workshops and behind-the-scenes tours of the Festival. There are also opportunities to meet members of the acting company, production and administrative staff.
Residents and visitors alike have a variety of cultural facilities to enjoy in Stratford when not attending a performance at the Festival. Stratford is home many annual festivals and celebrations including: the Stratford Swan Parade, Summer Music Festival, Garlic Festival, Doc Fest, Savour Stratford Perth County Culinary Festival, Kiwanis Music Festival and Winterfest.
Gallery Stratford, located close to the main theatre, has year-round exhibits that instill a sense of appreciation for the artists whose work is displayed. There are several other galleries throughout the city where artists welcome visitors into their creative environments.
The Stratford Perth Museum features aspects of urban and agricultural development of the area. Several collections by local residents are on display. Knowledgeable staff is available to guide you through the Museum and to tell you stories about what life was like for our forefathers.
Stratford is home to 29 churches devoted to a wide variety of denominations and affiliations, and they have added immeasurably to the community through many services and charity groups.
