Natural gas is supplied to the City of Stratford by UNION GAS LIMITED. The gas enters the City’s regulator station through an 8-inch, 800-pound pressure line. From this regulating station the pressure is reduced to City pressure of approximately 40 pounds.
The large majority of industries in Stratford and the surrounding area use natural gas as their primary source of heat and processing. The pipe network extends to all regions of the City. Large volume contract rates are available to industrial and commercial customers who operate on a high load factor and use a substantial volume per year.
Union Gas is a major Canadian natural gas utility that provides energy delivery to residents and businesses in the Stratford area. Union Gas also provides natural gas storage and transportation services for other utilities and energy market participants.
Union Gas is regulated under the Ontario Energy Board Act and subject to the Energy Act (Ontario) and Public Utilities Act (Ontario). Because of deregulation in the Ontario energy industry, the option now exists to purchase natural gas from other suppliers, to be delivered through the Union Gas distribution system.
